This is Walt Disney Studio's second attempt at trying to capture the magic of the original 1939 classic, in 1985 they release "Return to Oz" which was a mega-bomb at the box office and was also trashed by most critics. The only saving grace is the film's ultra-expense CGI visual effects, some of which are quite impressive, they are designed to recall the cinematic magic of the 1939 classic motion picture. There are innumerable disappointments in Raimi's film, beginning with his awkward direction, and the lame screenplay by Mitchell Kapner & David Lindsay-Abaire, which is filled with potholes, and then there is James Franco who's bland and superficial performance is all wrong for his character. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity and even a bit of wizardry Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz, but into a better man as well. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Frank Baum's character of Oz, who was played by character actor Frank Morgan in the original classic, here the character has been changed, he is a shallow, selfish, womanizing small-town carnival magician named Oscar Diggs, played by a fatally miscast cast James Franco, who is hurled away by a twister from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz and the Emerald City, he thinks he's hit the jackpot with fame and a fortune in gold which are all his for the taking, that is until he meets three witches Theodora, Evanora, Ginda which are all well played by Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams, who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. I want to see how the story ends.Sam Raimi's kitschy, mediocre $200 million dollar prequel to the beloved 1939 classic "The Wizard of Oz." It re-imagines the origins of L. Sam Raimi: I want to live for a long time because I want to see how the stories of my kids’ lives turn out. You’ve accomplished so much in your career, but what is one thing you still want to achieve in the future? Risen Magazine: Oz doesn’t want to die until he achieves greatness. I think it happens a lot in life and goes in transitions. It can be your significant other, or best friend. Mila Kunis: I think that if you are lucky and constantly surrounding yourself with great friends – I do believe they are the people that mold you and change you, and either help you or harm you. Risen Magazine: When it comes to changing perceptions, who might be some of the people that were catalysts for that in your life? I’m a horrible person for you to ask this question to, probably very jaded I think it’s up to the parent or whoever raises the child to teach them morals, and right from wrong, and instill that type of behavior in a baby. Mila Kunis: I’m going to get in trouble for saying it, but I don’t think people are necessarily born good.

Risen Magazine: Themes of good versus bad begs the question are people bad, and choose to do good, or are they good and get corrupted to be bad?

How often do we see that in our lives where someone doesn’t even know how to lie and they are a pure, innocent angel. I think it’s funny in that early scene where Oz wants him to lie and you watch this little innocent monkey lie for the first time and he’s really bad at it when he’s giving that introduction, and I just think it’s so sweet.

Zach Braff: I think we all aspire to be as loyal and honest as this character is. How close to your personality is this monkey? Risen Magazine: You play Finley, the fiercely loyal sidekick to Oz. I had plenty of teachers that did that for me, so it’s sort of a combination. Then there are other times when you will meet people along the way that give you that special encouragement that you need. But, sometimes when you want to go into a crazy business like acting where there are only so many roles, and the percentages are just very tough, you have to just go and believe in yourself. James Franco: I had great parents who were very supportive. Who has believed in you and encouraged you to be who you are today? Risen Magazine: In the movie, so many people believe in Oz, which helps him become the wizard he is.
